Update your BIOS and turn on XMP / EXPO, step by step

One step per screen, to follow on your phone while your PC restarts. No overclocking: the maker's BIOS, then the RAM profile validated by the maker. Your progress is saved.

Before you start

  • XMP / EXPO runs the memory beyond the processor's base specifications. Intel and AMD state on their official pages that this may affect the processor warranty.
  • An interrupted BIOS update (power cut, wrong file) can stop the PC from starting: never cut the power during the update.
  • You make these settings yourself, in the BIOS. The software doesn't make them and can't undo them. If in doubt, don't confirm.

BIOS up to date first

We don't know your BIOS date: update it (or check it's less than 12 months old) before turning on XMP / EXPO.

Step 1 / 4

Note your motherboard and BIOS version

Press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter. Note “BaseBoard Product” and “BIOS Version/Date”.

  • The exact model matters, including the revision (e.g. “Rev 1.1” or “MS-7E70”).
  • Laptop or branded PC: update with the PC maker's own tool, charger plugged in.

AI can be wrong: if in doubt, don't confirm. If the PC no longer starts: Clear CMOS (BIOS reset, see your motherboard manual).
